Brynn describes Backcare yoga as a “feel good, sometimes hurts so good, slow burn.” Her overall goal with this class is helping students build connections between the spine and other parts of the body, with the hope of managing pain or discomfort. For example, how does the health of our feet and ankles impact our pelvis and spine? How do our everyday movement and breath patterns inform the poses we engage with on our yoga mat? Class themes and focuses vary, with past topics including regions of the body, movements or breathwork to assist with feelings of sadness or anxiety, and foundational movements for classical yoga poses. Expect to use a wide range of props and multiple planes of movement for both accessibility and tactile feedback.
This class is appropriate for those experiencing general back or neck pain and is not intended as a diagnostic tool for acute pain or injuries. Class takes place from both seated and standing positions but can easily be adapted for mobility restrictions!
